Traditionally, graves were marked mostly by wooden markers which a poor man could make himself and carve or paint as simply or elaborately as he wished. Although most people in Hungary now use stone gravemarkers, there are still some who do the traditional styles. Józsi's dad is a professional woodcarver and he sometimes carves them for people in our city who like the old traditions. Here are a few examples of this art form.
